Our Story
Hash Data was born out of a realisation that something in the world of digital asset data needed to change. Founders Petri and Daniel were working to establish the digital asset department of KPMG in the Cayman Islands when they uncovered a growing need for quality data in the digital asset industry.
Through their roles assisting in the development of audit methodologies and mechanisms such as digital signature tools, API to exchanges and blockchain explorers, and working with some of the largest funds and service providers in the industry, they realized there was a huge need for a new method of data aggregation and normalization. And so, at the start of 2021, Hash Data was created, providing one simple and easy-to-use solution for all of your digital asset data needs.

Our Team
Petri Basson
Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer
Not one for tradition, Petri began integrating IT and audit from the beginning of his career. After completing his accounting degree at the University of Pretoria, he obtained a post graduate diploma in Information Systems Auditing from Rhodes University, while simultaneously completing his articles at EY South Africa.
Daniel Botha
Co-Founder, Chief Technology Officer
As one of the founders of Hash Data, Dan’s journey to crypto and blockchain is as straight as a hula hoop. Qualifying as a chemical engineer from the University of Pretoria, specializing in environmental and process control engineering, Dan spent several years at various mines and power generation plants creating and refining modelling algorithms and honing his skills in programming.
Max Petkovsek
Chief Operating Officer
First auditing digital assets back in 2019, Max's experience extends through NFTs, DeFi, and translating traditional finance to emerging technologies. As a CPA with experience across financial assets and alternative finance serving in senior roles at KPMG and EY across Canada, the United States, and the Cayman Islands, Max has built his career helping businesses succeed.
Matthew Scerri
While studying for his Honor’s degree in IT and Computer Science Matthew worked full time as a software developer with Ascent Software. His practical industry experience made him an ideal fit for KPMG’s software development team. Starting as a senior software developer in 2014, Matt quickly climbed the ranks becoming an Associate Director in 2019.
Ryan Falzon
Ryan gained a bachelor’s degree in software development from the University of Malta and went on to work for KPMG in Malta, where he was placed in the blockchain division, beginning his interest in the space. Not content with learning on his own, he later completed a Master’s degree in distributed ledger technologies from the University of Malta, passing with distinction.
Pieter Smit
Give Pieter a problem and he will chisel away until it is solved. Pieter’s unique philosophy of seeing programming not only as a language of logic, but as a combination of art and logic, brings a different problem-solving perspective to the Hash Data team.
Jacques Oosthuizen
Jacques learned his art through practical application followed by theoretical knowledge. He has worked at various companies prior to joining Hash Data, and one of his stand-out achievements was being team lead for an international project for Daimler working on a microservice architecture.
Luke Abela
Much like the rest of the Hash Data team members Luke’s journey began at KPMG Malta, where he worked in software development for more than three years and became a Senior Software Developer.

With a Bachelor's Degree in IT Willie has more than a decade’s worth of diversified experience in the IT Industry. He has extensive experience in
optimizing and improving processes and complex continuous product deliveries by implementing a scaled Agile environment. He works closely with our
development team to keep out progress on track.

Karel Olivier
Prior to joining Hash Data, Karel worked for Deloitte for several years. Gaining experience in South Africa, the USA, and Cayman Islands. He has audited listed
companies all the way through to captive insurance. He brings financial experience to the team and assists in business operations.
